Abstract

In recent times, graduate employability has become a central issue in educational and economic development discourse, particularly within Nigeria’s evolving knowledge-based economy. This paper explores how innovative office technology and management education can be leveraged to enhance graduate employability in tertiary institutions across Rivers State. The paper also recognizes that employability transcends mere acquisition of academic qualifications; it encompasses digital literacy, technical competence, communication proficiency, problem-solving ability, and entrepreneurial orientation. As workplaces continue to embrace digital transformation, institutions must align their teaching and learning processes with technological and managerial innovations that reflect 21st-century realities. The paper also examines how management education through components such as business communication, project management, human resource development, and financial management can cultivate the leadership, collaboration, and decision-making skills essential for the modern labour market. Furthermore, it highlights the relevance of knowledge management, innovation, entrepreneurship, and global competitiveness as defining pillars of a knowledge-based economy that shapes employability outcomes. The paper reviewed literature and institutional practices to determine the relationship between technological adoption, educational management reform, and employability outcomes. The paper suggests that these institutions must intensify partnerships with private sectors amongst others to enhance vocational and technical training, and promote entrepreneurial incubation to bridge the gap between academic learning and labour market demands.
