ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND CONTEMPORARY DEVELOPMENT IN BUSINESS EDUCATION: ISSUES AND CHALLENGES IN NIGERIAN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
Abstract
This study explores the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping contemporary business education within Nigerian tertiary institutions, highlighting key issues and challenges that influence its adoption. As AI technologies continue to revolutionize global education, Nigerian universities face unique hurdles including infrastructural deficits, financial constraints, faculty resistance, curriculum gaps, and ethical concerns related to data privacy and equity. Using a descriptive approach, the research investigated Artificial Intelligence and Contemporary Development in Business Education: Issues and Challenges in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions. A total of 150 respondents participated in the study, comprising 80 business education lecturers (53.3%), 40 IT personnel (26.7%), and 30 academic administrators (20%). The respondents were drawn from tertiary institutions across five geopolitical zones of Nigeria. Data for the study was gathered through online Google form. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, and mean scores to summarize responses. Inferential statistics (ANOVA) was used to determine correlations of the variables. The findings reveal that while AI adoption is still at an early stage, there is significant enthusiasm and recognition of its value among educators and students. However, addressing technological and cultural barriers through targeted investments and continuous professional development is essential for sustainable AI integration. The study concludes by envisioning a future where AI empowers Nigerian business education to deliver personalized, relevant, and globally competitive programs, thereby contributing to national economic growth and innovation.
