CHAPTER 40 : MUSIC AND TOURISM AS AGENTS OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

Abstract

Music in its setting (traditional, western, popular) when assessed from every angle has a serious attachment to tourism, especially in these contemporary times. Since music and tourism enhance the human resource development of society, it has not been however, given serious attention as regards the issue of exposing music and tourism to widen its knowledge and draw attraction to it since travel, music performance and entertainment are all wielded together as system industry for human resource development of the Nigerian society. The study, therefore, sets out to do investigative research on how music and tourism serve as agents of human resource development in Nigeria with special reference to Prof. (Mrs.) Agatha Ijeoma Onwuekwe (Ugonabo). The study applies library and literature as its methods of data collection. The study hinges on socialization and tourism theories. The findings state that music and tourism prove to be prominent aspects of human resource development both in self-reliability and national attainment. Therefore, if properly recognized and given place audience, it will enhance better life in our society. The study, therefore, recommends that the government, individuals and curriculum planners as well as sponsors should come together to encourage the work of music and tourism to ensure human resource management and development to its best standard in our society.
