ROLE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION ON BUSINESS SKILLS DEVELOPMENT OF BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS OF SOKOTO STATE
Abstract
Thestudyexaminedthe role of entrepreneurship education on business skills development of business education students of tertiaryinstitutionsin Sokoto state.Thestudyadopted a cross sectionalsurveyresearchdesign to elicit information from respondents.Thepopulationofthe studyconsistedofall NCE and UGstudentsinthetertiaryinstitutions of Sokoto state offering business educationwhichstood at seven hundred and twenty five (725) students. Purposive sampling method was used to select two hundred and forty eight (248) forthestudy using Krejcie and Morgan 1970 table. The study made use ofa well structuredquestionnaire which was validatedby expertsinmeasurementandevaluation, and a total of two hundred and six (206) respondents completed and returned the questionnaire.The validity of the research instrument was 0.71 and reliability of theinstrumentwasdeterminedusingthe Cronbachs alphawith a value of 0.75.The study formulated three research questions and three hypotheses for the study. Descriptive statisticswere used to analyzethe researchquestions,while thehypotheseswere testedusing AnalysisofVariance (ANOVA) and simple regressionat 0.05significantlevels.Thestudyrevealedthat entrepreneurship educationhas significant influence onbusiness planningskills and marketing skills of business education studentsoftertiaryinstitutionsinSokoto state, whereas the study revealed that there is no significant relationship between entrepreneurship education and financial management skills of the students. Basedonthefindings, itwasrecommendedthat managementoftertiaryinstitutions in the state are enjoined toengage business educationstudentson entrepreneurial educationprocesses to equip them with more ideas and concepts on the importance of finance. They are also encouragedtoseek thehelpof entrepreneurial role models andmentors toactualizetheiroutlook.
