INSTITUTION-INDUSTRY COLLABORATION AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION IN OFFICE MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY OPTION IN RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITIES
Abstract
The study investigated Institution-Industry Collaboration and Technological Innovation in Office Management and Technology Option in Business Education in Rivers State Universities. Four specific objectives, research questions and hypotheses respectively were posed to guide the study. Correlational design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised forty one lecturers, 30 from Rivers State University and 11 from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education. The entire population was used as sample for the study and census sampling was adopted for the study. The instrument for data collection was self-constructed questionnaire titled Institution-Industry Collaboration and Technology Innovation (IICTI) questionnaire and Office Management and Technology Questionnaire (OMTQ) developed by the researchers and used for data collection. The instrument were validated by two experts in Business Education and one in Measurement and Evaluation, all in the Faculty of Education, Cronbach Alpha method was used to establish the reliability index of 0.88 and 0.80 respectively. Data collected were analysed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) to answer both the research question and hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings from the study revealed that there is significant relationship between research partnership and technological innovation in Office management and Technology, also there exist a strong relationship between research and development and technological innovation in Office Management and Technology and there is a strong relationship between manpower training and technological innovations in Office Management and Technology. Conclusion drawn from the study was that research, partnership provides consultative services for both institutions of learning and industries. Based on the findings and conclusion, it was recommended among others that there should be effective collaboration between the industries and institutions on research partnership and technological innovation and authorities concern should institute a mechanism that will stimulate effective ways of knowledge transfer between the institutions and the industry that will be beneficial to both parties and including students in the universities.
